VOYEUR

Allowing the viewer to engage with the sensual act of imagination as foreplay. The works show self portraits as photographic prints. Each image was chosen from ones I have sent to lovers over a duration of time (2010-2014.) They capture a coming of age and sexual exploration into self. I was 20 in earliest images and 24 in the latest. There are sexual undertones that express the lust to be watched and the digital age people explore their sexuality within. The blurred affect creates an awareness of self-censorship. The concept of the "exhibitionist" or performer and voyeur relationship is captured. The series aims to create a layered sensual play between the materials. Each medium allowing for awareness of a personal moment to be shared yet many share the same experience. The reflective surfaces creates a sudden realisation of the viewer being a part of the work. Oil paint reminds us of the physicality's of flesh and bodily fluids, making us more self aware of our own presence within the process of watching. The work alludes to the physical body being held within a two dimensional space, one similar to the computer screen. On the back of each work is a private message creating a personal connection between the owner of the work and the artist. Similar to the hidden lines held between intimate partners. These works resonate the connection between voyeur and an onscreen "video girl," it is not physical and yet becomes physically felt by one another and represented within the medium. Sizes: 42x30cm.
